Dr. Who Swap

29 October 2009 2 Comments

For those that don’t realize it… Dr. Who.. totally rocks!  I don’t know what it is about British sci-fi/comedies, but we LOVE them around here.

Most of you know that I’m a swapaholic on Craftster.  Well, I just mailed off a package to olive_juice for what will be my last swap of the year.  (Other than the MishMashStashBash which is monthly through next October.)

This was only a four point swap, so I overdid it.  But really… I couldn’t help myself.

First I tried my hand at carving stamps.  I used this tutorial to dive into stamp making.  It was quite an experience and one I’m sure I’ll revisit.  The note cards (and stamps) didn’t turn out as well as I had hoped, but I hope that Nicole still likes them!

I don’t think there is one single person in this house that wanted to see those pillowcases leave.  They really look awesome.

I embroidered them with a variegated gray thread.  I think it really makes those weeping angels look even better than if they were done with a plain gray.

The words Don’t Blink are pretty self-explanatory for those that watch the show.  For those that don’t - here’s the run down.

Weeping angels are monsters in the show.  They look like weeping angel statues, but when you aren’t looking at them, they look down right evil!

They also move FAST - so it is in your best interest to… DONT BLINK!

I also embroidered this cyberman onto a canvas tote.   I used only navy thread so it would blend with the tote’s edging.  This would have looked good on my arm,  but no… I had to mail it also.

One rule of thumb I have regarding swaps - don’t send anything you wouldn’t love too.  Regardless of this rule, swap anxiety always sets in at this time in the game.  All I can do is wait for Nicole’s reaction.  Guess I’ll sit by the mailbox awaiting my Dr. Who package to come.  Can’t wait to see what I get!   As they say, swaps are like Christmas for crafty adults!

Keep Kraftin’

To give credit where due, the nice weeping angel and cyberman come from jinkies 36 @ Deviant Art.  The mean weeping angel comes from a coloring page on BBC’s website.

The pillow cases are awesome (but scary) and as I’m called Nicole too I especially like the cards. :) Isn’t the phone box supposed to be red though?

Oh My God these are awesome. Stephen Moffat episodes are by far the best and i would be borrowing the angels’ idea for my own house if it were not for the fact that my 10 year old son is TERRIFIED of the weeping angels!

    These are simply superb!
